We climbed Everest at Benny Beg

Over two days at Benny Beg in Perthshire, the Urban Uprising community collectively climbed the equivalent height of Everest (8,849 meters!) as a challenge to raise funds to run more Urban Uprising programmes for disadvantaged young people.

Urban Uprising helps disadvantaged young people through climbing. With the generous support of many donations over the years we have grown and helped more young people each year. We smashed our £2,000 target but you can continue to support us before we close the Just Giving page here - https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/everestchallenge

Scroll for our account of the weekend!

On Saturday we were suffering in the baking sun and some folk resorted to barefoot climbing - not recommended apparently 🙈

Multiple people did their first outdoor climb and some did their first outdoor leads 💪

There were a few moments of doubt about whether we could make it to the top but by the end of day one we were blown away by the tally board - we were over 2/3 of the way there 😮

A well deserved BBQ and campfire was enjoyed and those who could stay for day two camped on top of the crag or in our various vehicles 😴

Under the cool of the night two climbers added many more sends to the board, which was a pleasant surprised for the rest of us on Sunday morning 🙏

Much welcomed fresh climbers joined us on day two including Robert from Climb Scotland, who did all the routes either on lead or solo with his ever present enthusiasm 😁

As the afternoon drew to a close we realised that we only had two climbs left so two of the crew climbed together to reach the summit ✅

Some folk even continued to climb after we had finished the challenge - hats off to you!

We can't say thank you enough to everyone who came to climb and thank you to everyone who donated - £2,000 will fund a whole programme of 10 indoor climbing sessions and 1 outdoor session for 10 young people whose lives we can change through climbing!
